The Burgess Research Action Group works with communities, particularly communities with significant student populations that are socially high-risk and educationally at-risk to provide the academic and social support that will enable high-risk and at-risk students to be successful in school. With the aim to suggest that both the student and the institution must adjust to work for the academic success of socially high-risk and educationally at-risk students.

BRAG believes that regardless of the social economic and/or ethnic makeup of communities with significant numbers of students who are socially high-risk or academically at-risk, regardless of those students past academic performance or personal obstacles, those students are capable of graduating from high school ready to succeed in the 

  

BRAG believes that regardless of the social economic and/or ethnic makeup of communities with significant numbers of students who are socially high-risk or academically at-risk, regardless of those students past academic performance or personal obstacles, those students are capable of graduating from high school ready to succeed in the job market, the military or post-secondary education when academic institutions provide the necessary support for those students and the willingness of those institutions to work with those students and their communities to learn how to navigate the mainstream of America.

To assist communities in helping students navigate the American mainstream

To advance the academic achievement of academically at-risk students

To assist socially high-risk students, adjust to their school’s culture

To advance closing the achievement gap between traditionally low performing student groups and high perfo

  

The Strategic Goals:

The Tactical Objectives:

To discuss why high-risk and at-risk students are not achieving at higher academic levels of success

To suggest strategies that might successfully engage high-risk and at-risk students in their school culture 

To aid schools in developing strategies that might help schools successfully engage academic and socially high-risk students in successfully navigating the academic and social culture of their schools

To aid schools in developing plans for engaging socially at-risk and advancing academically at-risk students
